About the Music Ministry
The North Stonington Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, Music Ministry uses music of various styles and genres to enhance the worship experience for all who attend worship. Choirs include the Senior Choir, Junior/Youth Choir, Cherub Choir and a 3-octaveHandbell Choir, The Village Ringers. The sanctuary has a 1901, 7-rank Estey Pipe Organ (more about organ), which was refurbished in 1992 by the Potter-Rathbun Organ Company of Cranston, RI, as well as a Wm. Knabe & Co. Grand Piano.
Music During Worship
Music at each Sunday worship service ranges from Baroque to Classical to Gospel and Spirituals, as well as contemporary music. Worship begins with the organ prelude and continues to include rousing hymns from the New Century Hymnal as well as other resources. The service ends with the organ postlude and all are invited to stay and listen to the postlude which concludes the worship service. The Senior Choir sings an anthem each week as well as leading the hymns and psalm responses. Additional choirs which enhance worship include the Junior/Youth Choir (grades 3-12); the Cherub Choir (ages 3 through 2nd grade – singing at Christmas and Easter worship) and the Hand bell Choir (adults).
Special services throughout the year also include music by our church instrumentalists on trumpet, trombone and flute.

Our Cherub Choir includes youngsters ages 3 through grade 2. This choir sings twice per year and is led by one of our senior choir members accompanied on piano by our Director of Music. The rehearsal includes a story/lesson as well as the anthem to be sung.
Handbell Choir – The Village Ringers
The Village Ringers, our adult handbell choir is an adult group of ringers who ring 3- octaves of Shulmerich handbells and 3-octaves of Malmark handchimes. Summer Music
During the summer months, when our choirs are on a well deserved summer break, we offer a Summer Music program. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who would like to share their gift of music during worship. A sign-up sheet is posted in the choir room and all are invited to sign up for a Sunday to offer a vocal or instrumental song offering.
Over the years, many people from within the church family as well as friends of the church have shared the gift of music. From elementary age students to adults, our summer music has seen vocalists, flautists, a recorder player, a bassoonist, handbell ringers and pianists.
Our Summer Music Program runs from June to September.
